Historical Note
In order to assist Chief Plenty Coups State Park achieve its goals, a group of individuals created the non-profit organization the Friends of Chief Plenty Coups Advisory Council circa 1992. The organization functions as an advisory board to the Friends of Chief Plenty Coups Association. Crow community members, museum and educational professionals, and tourism representatives comprise the membership of the advisory council.
The Friends of Chief Plenty Coups Advisory Council conducted a wide range of activities for the park. Specifically, the council advised in the creation and implementation of two Native American Grave Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA) grants. The council also planned the annual Chief Plenty Coups Day of Honor that brings together a broad cross section of the community each labor-day weekend to celebrate the life of the last Crow chief. Beyond these functions related specifically to the park, the organization also produces a newsletter that informs the public about goings on at the park and the advisory council.
